Dr. Beth Barba.
GREENSBORO, NC – Dr. Beth Barba, associate professor of nursing at UNCG, is one of 54 nurses worldwide inducted by the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) as 2007 Fellows.
Barba will be inducted November 10 during the Academy’s 34th annual meeting and conference in Washington, D.C.
Selection criteria include evidence of significant national and/or international contributions to nursing and health care. Each nominee must be sponsored by two current Academy fellows. Selection is based on the presentation of evidence of the nominee’s work to improve nursing practice and health policy and their capacity to make contributions in the future.
Barba’s contributions are focused in gerontology and geriatric nursing education. She is currently the director of a federally funded project that provides geriatric education to nurses practicing in rural regions of North Carolina.
She holds a B.S.N. from Jersey City State College, an M.A. and Ph.D. from New York University, and a postdoctoral fellowship in geriatric nursing from Duke University.
The Academy is made up of more than 1,500 nursing leaders in education, management, practice and research. Leadership positions held by Academy fellows include university presidents, chancellors and deans; state and federal political appointees; hospital chief executives and vice presidents for nursing; researchers and entrepreneurs; and practicing nurses.
AAN was established in 1973 under the auspices of the American Nurses Association to provide visionary leadership to the nursing profession and to the public in shaping future health care policy and practice.
