GREENSBORO, NC – The University of North Carolina at Greensboro has raised more than $80 million through June 30 in its Students First Campaign.
Now, that fundraising success has been recognized by one of higher education’s most important professional organizations.
The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) is giving UNCG one of its CASE 2007 WealthEngine Awards for Educational Fundraising in the overall improvement category, along with inclusion in the CASE “Circle of Excellence.”
The honor was announced by Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Patricia W. Stewart, who said that UNCG is in good company – other category winners include Georgia Tech, Clemson, Tufts, Louisville and Seattle, along with Elon and Catawba in North Carolina.
Selection of winners was based on evaluation of three years of fundraising data. Judges looked for significant program growth and institutions were evaluated within their peer groups. UNCG was grouped among public research/doctoral granting institutions.
Factors included the pattern of growth in total support, evaluation of what contributed to the total support figure, overall breadth and growth patterns in program areas, pattern of donor growth among alumni and other individual donors, impact of the 12 largest gifts on total support, total support from the alumni base and institution type.
“Since we started the Students First Campaign in 2004, its success has been phenomenal,” said Stewart. “Our campaign leadership, volunteers and staff have carried the campaign’s vision to thousands of friends of this university, and they have responded wonderfully. This award is for them and all they’ve done for UNCG.”
The Students First Campaign is scheduled to run through 2009 with its theme, “The Impact of One. The Power of Many.” The initial goal of $78.2 million was raised to $100 million almost a year ago. Campaign co-chairs are Linda Arnold Carlisle and Norman and Sylvia Samet, all of Greensboro.
CASE is the premier professional association for educational advancement professionals. Its membership consists of more than 3,300 educational institutions in 54 countries around the world and almost 23,000 individual professionals in alumni relations, fund raising, communications and marketing.
