Dr. Jacquelyn White, a psychology professor at UNCG, has received the 2007 Carolyn Wood Sherif Award from the Society for the Psychology of Women. The award honors those who have made contributions to the field as scholars, teachers, mentors and leaders.

She also is president-elect of the society, a division of the American Psychological Association established in 1973. In connection with the award, she will address the APA’s August 2008 convention in Boston.

White joined the UNCG faculty in 1971, the same year she earned her doctorate in social psychology from Kent State University. She has served as editor of the Psychology of Women Quarterly and president of the Southeastern Psychological Association.

She is on the editorial board of Aggressive Behavior, the journal of the International Society for Research in Aggression, a society for which she serves as treasurer. She has edited two books and published numerous articles and book chapters about sexual aggression and victimization, social influence, and gender issues.

Grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Justice have supported research on dating violence and sexual assault among adolescents and college students. She is currently working on a project funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse examining trauma, trauma effects and substance use in college.
