BioNight Award Goes to Dr. Vincent Henrich

GREENSBORO, NC – Dr. Vincent Henrich was among five honorees from the Piedmont Triad’s biotech industry to be honored March 1 at Triad BioNight for their contributions in different categories.

Henrich received the 2007 Research and Development Excellence Award. He is director of the Center for Biotechnology, Genomics and Health Research at UNCG.

His citation read: "As director of the Center for Biotechnology, Genomics and Health Research, Dr. Henrich has brought to the Triad the best combination of discovery, unfailing societal responsibility, and practical vision. His leadership in this role as well as being a Professor and Inventor in the Biosciences brings renown to the Triad in the field of Genomic Medicine."

Other winners were: Entrepreneurial Excellence Award, Dr. J. Donald deBethizy, president & CEO, Targacept Inc.; Piedmont Biotechnology Community Leadership Excellence Award, staff of the Office of Technology Asset Management at Wake Forest University; and Biotechnology Support and Service Excellence Award, Russ H. Read, executive director, National Center for the Biotechnology Workforce.

The event has become the showcase for the Triad community to recognize growing endeavors in biotechnology. It celebrates the Triad as an emerging center of biotechnology enterprise development, along with leaders who have brought recognition to the region. A crowd of more than 250 attended, and heard James C. Greenwood, president and CEO of the Biotechnology Industry Organization.
