'Blue Jacket' Class Among Those Feted During Reunion Weekend April 13-14

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Members of the class of 1957 will celebrate their 50th reunion by wearing blue jackets symbolizing their class’s colors as part of the annual Reunion Weekend Friday and Saturday, April 13-14 at UNCG.

Alumni from class years ending in the numbers 2 and 7 will be highlighted during the festivities that range from a music and fashion show through the ages to a Caribbean celebration. Close to 300 alumni from across the country are expected to attend.


Events include:

• Friday, 2-3 p.m., Betty Carter, UNCG University Archivist will give a presentation on the history and traditions of the university. Elliott University Center.

• Friday, 4-5 p.m., the UNCG School of Education will hold their Distinguished Alumni Awards. Ferguson Building, second floor lobby.

• Friday, 5:30-7 p.m., UNCG Alumni Ambassadors present “Music and Fashion through the Ages.” Elliott University Center.

• Friday, 7:30 p.m., the classes of 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987 and all others attending the reunion will be serenaded by a steel drum band with Caribbean food.

• Saturday, 8-9 a.m., Chancellor’s breakfast and induction of the class of 1957 into the Vanguard Society. The society is composed of alumni who graduated 50 years ago or more. Cone ballroom, Elliott University Center.

• Saturday, 11:30 a.m., Grand Reunion Luncheon and 114th meeting of the UNCG Alumni Association, with presentation of the Alumni Distinguished Service Awards to Dr. Frances Alexander Campbell, PhD, ’55, and Dr. Jay A. Mancini, PhD, ’77 by Becci Menghini, director of alumni affairs. The class of 1957 will present its class gift to Chancellor Patricia A. Sullivan.

• Saturday, 2 p.m., the Anna M. Gove Student Health Center will be rededicated by Chancellor Sullivan.

• Saturday, 6 p.m., the School of Health and Human Performance will hold a reception honoring its 2006 and 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award winners and Ethel Martus Lawther Alumni Award recipients. Weatherspoon Art Museum.
