Lauren Wilson, in blue, and Elizabeth Lane rehearse “Open House,” an MFA dance concert that premieres March 16-17.
GREENSBORO, NC – Welcome home. Come on in and kick off your shoes.
Emily Morgan, a graduate student in the Department of Dance, will present her MFA concert, “Open House,” Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17, at the UNCG Dance Theater.
Audience members will be allowed to enter at 7:53, 8:23 and 8:53 p.m. Once inside, visitors may stay as long as they wish. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and students, and $6 for UNCG students.
The work was inspired by a case of mistaken identity more than two years ago. An unknown caller insisted Morgan was a different Emily Morgan and couldn’t be convinced otherwise. She even called a second time and left a message.
The unsettling episode made Morgan wonder, What makes me who I am?
She found her answer, and the subject of “Open House,” in the everyday activities of home. In the concert, the theater becomes an abstracted house.
Visitors will tour the living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom as Morgan and 13 other dancers perform. They will have opportunities to participate in the performance themselves.
The UNCG Dance Theater is at the corner of Walker Avenue and Kenilworth Street. Tickets are available online at http://boxoffice.uncg.edu/ or by calling (336) 334-4849.
