GREENSBORO, NC – Faculty, staff and students at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro received awards for excellence in teaching, research, scholarship and service during the institution’s Excellence Day on May 2. The award winners are:
Faculty & Staff Awards
• Staff Excellence Awards – John Pearce, a supervisor with Facilities Operations, and Jerry Benjamin, an administrative support associate in the Office of the Provost
• Alumni Teaching Excellence Awards – Dr. Roberto Campo, associate professor, Department of Romance Languages, and Dr. Jose Villalba, assistant professor, Department of Counseling and Educational Development.
• Research Excellence Awards – Dr. Derek Krueger, professor, Department of Religious Studies, and Dr. Keith Erikson, assistant professor, Department of Nutrition.
• Gladys Strawn Bullard Awards for Service – Dr. Jen Day Shaw, dean of students; Dr. Eileen Kohlenberg, associate dean, School of Nursing; senior Anna Leigh Simanovich of Greensboro.
• UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching – Dr. Kevin Lowe, associate professor, Department of Business Administration.
Graduate student awards
• Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards – Jacob Tucci, School of Human Environmental Sciences; Aaron Terranova, School of Health and Human Performance; Katie Stein, School of Education; Kelly Turner, School of Music; David M. Rogers, College of Arts and Sciences; Praveen Pinjani, Bryan School of Business and Economics.
• Outstanding Dissertation Award – Joe Falocco, Department of English, “Elizabethan Staging in the 20th Century: Theatrical Practice and Cultural Context.”
• Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award – Jackie Dawn Metheny, Department of Biology, “A Genetic Analysis of the Fission-Fusion Roosting Behavior of Tree-Roosting Maternity Colonies of Big Brown Bats.”
