GREENSBORO, NC – To think, it all started at UNCG.

The first-ever Bricolage Arts Festival, a four-day showcase for the region’s artists and artisans, will be held Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 1-4.

The concept for Bricolage was developed by Anne Willson, while she was serving as executive director of UNCG ArtsLink, at the request of then-Provost A. Edward Uprichard for the benefit of the community at large. It was one of several program ideas that went to Action Greensboro for review and implementation.

Not only did the idea originate at UNCG, the campus has one faculty member, Duane Cyrus, on the performance schedule. His Duane Cyrus/Cyrus Art Production and Dance Theatre will join Forsyth County visual artist Virginia Shepley at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Grimsley High School in Greensboro.

Over the weekend, the festival will feature 12 separate events, with new works created by regional musicians, dancers, filmmakers, and visual artists at various locations in seven different counties across the Piedmont Triad. The festival now becomes a biennial event.

Following its incubation at UNCG, Willson and Don Kirkman, president and CEO of the Piedmont Triad Partnership, expanded the concept to embrace the entire Piedmont Triad. This year’s festival includes new collaborative works by Piedmont Triad artists in 12 individual performances in 11 different cities.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 & under. Dates, times and locations for all events are available at the festival’s website, www.bricolageartsfestival.org, through Oct. 28 and at the door one hour prior to each event. For more information on artists and events, go to the website or call (336) 908-3242 or (336) 908-4182.
