GREENSBORO, NC – Area writers will use their talents to feed the hungry during the 13th annual “Will Read for Food” benefit Thursday, Nov. 15, at UNCG.
The benefit for the Greensboro Food Bank begins at 7 p.m. in the Weatherspoon Art Museum Auditorium. Festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. with live music, free appetizers and a cash bar. A donation of $5 for students and $10 for the general public is suggested.
The fund-raiser includes a raffle of autographed books and photographs, with raffle tickets available at the door. All proceeds go to the food bank, which distributes food to charitable agencies including soup kitchens, child-care centers and foster homes.
Hope Hodgkins, a UNCG English professor, first organized “Will Read for Food” as “Writer’s Harvest” in 1994. Since 1995, the annual benefit has been run by novelist and short story writer Michael Parker and has featured faculty from the university’s MFA Writing Program. Participants will include Lee Zacharias, Stuart Dischell, Jennifer Grotz and David Roderick as well as other authors from across the Triad. Books by participating authors will be on sale before and after the event.
Free parking is available behind the Weatherspoon Art Museum. Contact Terry Kennedy at (336) 334-5459 or terry_kennedy@uncg.edu for more details.
