GREENSBORO, N.C. – A memorial concert honoring James Leo Roueché, a long-time supporter of the School of Music will be held Thursday, Nov. 1.
The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the School of Music Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Works by Borodin, Turina and Shostakovich will be performed.
A native of Salisbury, Roueché established two endowments, the William F. Black Jazz Studies Scholarship and the James L. Roueché and Willard S. “Boots” Smith Music Endowment for International Students.
Until ill health made it too difficult, Roueché attended every musical performance at the School of Music. He was named an honorary member of the School of Music Faculty in 2001.
In addition to his interest in music, Roueché was a member of the United States Tennis Association, the Patriot Society and the Cousteau Society. He was a charter member of the Battle of Normandy and a member of the Order of the Ardennes. Roueché died on March 20, 2007.
