GREENSBORO, N.C. – Two films addressing the issues faced by individuals who may have biological characteristics of both male and female sexes will be shown during “Love Your Body” events.

The events, which run from Wednesday to Friday, Oct. 17-19, are sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Studies Program.

Scientists use the term “intersex” to describe people whose sex chromosomes, genitalia and/or sex characteristics are said to be ambiguous.

“Body issues come in all shapes and sizes. We communicate and experience so many things through out bodies,” says Alicia Sowisdral, a graduate student in the Women’s and Gender Studies Program who is coordinating the events. “As a campus we are literally a body of students.”

“Love Your Body” programs promote positive body images and self-acceptance for both men and women.

“Love Your Body” activities include:

•Wednesday, Oct. 17: Screening of “Mani’s Story” and “XXXY,” two short films about intersex issues, 6 p.m., Azalea Room, Elliott University Center.
•Thursday, Oct. 18: Screening of Margaret Cho’s film “I’m the One That I Want,” 7 p.m., Room 0028, McIver Building.
•Friday, Oct. 19: “A Body of Voices,” Minerva Series discussion, 12:30 p.m. Kirkland Room, EUC.

All events are free and open to the public.
