Tango Buenos Aires Kicks Off 2007-08 University Concert & Lecture Series

GREENSBORO, NC – From the St. Petersburg Ballet to melodies of Broadway, the University Concert & Lecture Series will feature a variety of musical and dance performances throughout the year.

The series will be held at the Carolina Theatre on Greene Street in Greensboro due to the renovation of Aycock Auditorium through the N.C. Higher Education Bonds funding.

Season and individual tickets are available. For ticket information, call (336) 334-4849. Tickets will also be available through the University Box Office web site at www.uncg.edu/euc/box office and through the Carolina Theatre box office by calling (336) 333-2605. All performances begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $30.50, $25.50 and $20.50. Seniors, children under 12 and students receive a $2 discount. UNCG student tickets are $8.50, $7.50 and $5.50. A limited number of free tickets for UNCG students are available until two days prior to the show. Tickets can be obtained at the University Box Office. All tickets are subject to a $1.50 Carolina Theatre restoration fee.

Scheduled performances are:

•Oct. 22. Tango Buenos Aires. Direct from Argentina, Tango Buenos Aires is one of the most authentic and uncompromising representatives of the sultry, evocative tango. Dress lightly, this show is sure to sizzle.

•Jan.16. Neil Berg’s “100 Years of Broadway” is a lavish spectacular that recreates some of the biggest moments of the Great White Way. Supported by an all-star band, the show features revivals of Broadway classics as well as its newest hits.

•Feb. 13. Chris Botti. Called “the sexiest trumpeter since Chet Baker,” jazz performer and composer Botti is a charismatic musician whose lush melodies and thoughtful improvisations have captured audiences worldwide.

•May 1. The St. Petersburg Ballet performs “Romeo and Juliet,” one of the most romantic ballets in classic repertoire. With an unforgettable score by Prokofiev, “Romeo and Juliet” will delight ballet aficionados of all ages.
