Samuel Troy
GREENSBORO, NC – Samuel Troy, director of the Office of Domestic Operations at the U.S. Department of Commerce, has joined the Bryan School of Business and Economics as an executive in residence for international education.
Troy comes to the Bryan School as part of the Intergovernmental Personnel Act, a governmental exchange program where federal employees can be assigned to state and local governments, universities and other eligible organizations for up to two years.
Troy will work to increase international awareness among students, faculty and the Piedmont business community. He will also provide guest lectures on international commerce to Bryan School students and will assist with bringing a global focus to UNCG’s economic development initiatives.
Troy has held a variety of executive positions with the Department of Commerce over the past 30 years including serving as in international trade specialist.
He is the former international sales manager for the Lane Company, a furniture business where he traveled to more than 30 countries and managed more than 20 international distributors.
Troy is a native of Greensboro. In addition to a master’s degree from East Carolina University, he holds a degree in higher studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.
Among his honors are the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award presented by former Governor Jim Hunt and a silver medal from the U.S. Department of Commerce recognizing his efforts to increase furniture exports with Japan.
