GREENSBORO, NC – Musician, storyteller, television host, historian and entertainer David Holt will share his personal experiences as an artist who started and maintains a successful arts business.

The event begins at 4 p.m. in Room 130 of the Moore Nursing Building. The public is welcome at no charge.

Holt’s visit to UNCG is part of the Building Entrepreneurial Learning for Life (BELL) Forum Series sponsored during the spring semester by the Entrepreneurial Innovation in the Arts (EIA) program. The program is designed to help those who are starting out, already involved in, or thinking about starting an arts business.

Holt is the host of public television’s “Folkways,” a North Carolina program that takes viewers through the southern mountains visiting traditional craftsmen and musicians. In 2002, Holt and Doc Watson won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Recording for “Legacy,” a three CD collection of songs and stories reflecting Doc Watson’s inspiring life stories. Holt and Watson are currently touring the United States.

As a storyteller, Holt has recorded numerous tales, including “Spiders in the Hairdo: Modern Urban Legends,” which was nominated for a Grammy Award. His recordings “The Hairyman” and “Tailybone,” both received the American Library Association’s highest honor. His newest release, the Grammy-nominated CD “Live and Kickin’ at the National Storytelling Festival,” is a retrospective of Holts more than 40 years music and storytelling.

Begun in 2007, BELL initiatives are aimed at building entrepreneurial awareness and the application of entrepreneurial principles and resources for the transformation of academic units across campus. It is the cornerstone of UNCG’s response to the priorities and strategic directions that the UNCG Board of Governors has set for the university system in promoting economic development in the state that includes business, social, civic, cultural and academic pursuits.
