GREENSBORO, N.C. – Documentary and narrative films from students completing their Masters of Fine Arts in Film and Video Production will be show Friday and Saturday, May 9-10.
The screenings, which are free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. at Elliott University Center. A 6 p.m. reception will precede each screening.
Among the offerings are “About Landscapes ” by Adem Weldon whose previous film "Some Apologies" won the UNCG Student Award at the 2008 Carolina Film and Video Festival, and Edward Tyndall's film "Sadie's Waltz." Other film subjects include the impact of the film “Matewan” on the state of West Virginia and a documentary about the religious practices of Messianic Jews.
“Each of the films in the screening has its own unique beauty and represents the interests and sensibilities of the filmmaker,” said Jonathan Scott Parker, the event coordinator and a graduate student in the Department of Broadcasting and Cinema. “This is a group of highly dedicated students, many of whose previous films have screened at film festivals around the country.”
On Friday, April 25, broadcasting and cinema graduate student Karishma Gurtu will hold a reading of his feature film script “Elephant-Head Girl.” The reading will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Curry Building. Jason Flynn will read from her feature film script “Until the Harvest,” at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at the Weatherspoon Art Museum. Both events are open to the public at no charge.
