GREENSBORO, NC – “Adventures in Behaving Lightly,” the final choreographic projects by the UNCG dance department’s BFA class of 2008, will be performed at 8 p.m. May 2-3 and 2 p.m. May 3 in the Dance Theater.

Tickets – $12 for general admission, $9 for seniors and children, and $6 for UNCG students – can be reserved through the UNCG Box Office, (336) 334-4849 or boxoffice@uncg.edu. The Dance Theater is located at Walker Avenue and Kenilworth Street.

The four seniors have based their dances on the cycle of teaching and learning, the act of being a prop and a person, the facets of womanhood, and a children’s book by Shel Silverstein. The BFA seniors will be joined on stage by the 2008 senior repertory class for a work choreographed by faculty member BJ Sullivan.

Jenny Sinfield Braswell will present “cha(i)ning,” a piece set on three high school students who take dance classes recreationally. She arranged the score from audio recordings made during her voice class in the fall.

Shaina Birkhead’s “Self Portrait with Cows Going Home” is her third piece to be performed in the Dance Theater. In the dance, gestures expand into full-body movement as they might in a toy shop coming to life at night.

Amy Brinkheide will present “The Facets of Eve,” a look at women and stereotypes. Strength, sexuality and insecurities in women inspired this three-person dance.

Olivia F. May’s “This Lion’s Tail” is a creative dance interpretation of Shel Silverstein’s “Lafcadio: The Lion Who Shot Back” May created the score using techniques learned at UNCG.

“Woven,” choreographed by BJ Sullivan, was originally a duet. The piece was Sullivan’s first upon arriving in North Carolina and has been adapted for a cast of seven women.
