GREENSBORO, NC – “Conversations with Gravity,” an evening of contemporary dance choreographed by MFA candidate Madeleine Reber, will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12, in the UNCG Dance Theater.
Tickets – $12 for general admission, $9 for seniors and children, and $6 for UNCG students – can be reserved through the UNCG Box Office, (336) 334-4849. The Dance Theater is located on Walker Avenue at Kenilworth Street.
The concert features four pieces – three group works and one solo – accompanied by spoken text and music by Astor Piazzolla, Madredeus, Underworld, Tom Waits and Vermillion Lies.
Delving into subjects such as relationships, gender and desire, these dances reveal the body as both vulnerable and resilient, according to Reber. Movement is at times shaped by release and momentum and at times creates intricately detailed forms.
As a choreographer, Reber is interested in how we each understand the world and create meaning through bodily experience, and how the body may perform or evoke multi-layered ideas and identities on stage. The intersection of moving bodies, evocative partnering and symbolic props creates strong visual images on the stage.
One of the four works in the concert contains adult language and content.
