New Department Heads Named in College, Schools

GREENSBORO, NC – New department heads and administrators are beginning appointments at UNCG as the 2008-09 academic year gets under way. All have been approved by the UNCG Board of Trustees. They are:
- Dr. William N. Dudley, associate dean for research, School of Health & Human Performance, after serving as interim during 2007-08. He came to the school from the Department of Public Health Education from the University of Utah and holds the PhD in experimental psychology from the University of Georgia.
- Dr. James M. Eddy, Department of Public Health Education. Eddy is coming from Texas A&M University where he was professor and chair of the Division of Health Education in the College of Education and Human Development. He completed his D.Ed. at Penn State University. He is an authority on worksite health promotion and health education.
- Dr. Stanley H. Faeth, Department of Biology. Faeth was previously on the faculty of the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University. He holds the PhD from Florida State University and his research focuses on the ecology and evolution of plant-fungi-herbivore natural enemy interactions.
- Dr. Tara T. Green, African-American Studies Program. Dr. Tara Green has been appointed as director and was previously on the faculty at Northern Arizona University. She holds the PhD in English from Louisiana State University. Her research interests include African American Protest Narratives/Movements and 20th Century African Literature.
- Dr. Elizabeth W. Lindsey, Department of Social Work. She received her PhD from the University of Georgia. Marriage and family therapy are her areas of specialization. Lindsey joined the School of Human Environmental Sciences faculty in 1994, and won the school’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2003.
- Dr. Kevin B. Lowe, Department of Business Administration. Lowe joined UNCG in 1996 and holds a PhD from Florida International University. His research is in human resource management, leadership, and cross-cultural management. He was UNCG’s recipient of the 2007 UNC Board of Governors Teaching Excellence Award.
- Dr. Joseph W. Starnes, Department of Exercise & Sport Science. Starnes comes from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his doctorate from University of Massachusetts and completed a postdoctoral program at the University of Michigan. His research focuses on physiological changes in heart muscle associate with aging and exercise.
- Dr. J. Scott Young, Department of Counseling & Educational Development. Young is coming from Mississippi State University, where he directed the Counseling and School Psychology Laboratory. He received his PhD from UNCG in 1996, and received the program’s Alumni Excellence Award in 2003. He specializes in spirituality in counseling.
