GREENSBORO, N.C. – Fourteen student and faculty musical groups from the School of Music will perform Saturday, Sept. 6, in celebration of the multi-million dollar reopening of Aycock Auditorium.
The festive concert, marking the first time UNCG performers will take the stage following a two year renovation of Aycock Auditorium, begins at 7:30 p.m.
All proceeds from the concert will support the School of Music Scholarship Fund.
Performances by student musical groups include: African Drumming Ensemble, Gate City Camerata, Jazz Ensemble, Old Time Folk Music Ensemble, Opera Theatre with the Casella Sinfonietta, Percussion Ensemble, University Chorale and Chamber Singers, University Symphony Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble.
Faculty-led performances include: Eastwind Ensemble, Faculty Jazz Combo, Market Street Brass, McIver String Trio and a sextet composed of members of the voice faculty.
“This will be a totally unique experience,” said Dr. Kevin Geraldi, assistant professor of Music. “The music will flow seamlessly through each half of the concert and will be enhanced by special lighting.”
Built in 1926, Aycock Auditorium underwent a $19 million renovation beginning in 2006. Improvements included new seating, enlarged lobby, construction of an orchestra pit, new sound and electrical systems, better sight lines, upgraded plumbing and HVAC systems, additional restrooms and new interior decor.
Ticket prices are $10 public, $6 seniors, $4 students. Tickets are available through the UNCG Box Office, www.uncg.edu/euc/boxoffice/tickets/. The University Box Office reopens Aug. 25.
