UNCG Joins Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG has joined the Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society for international education. UNCG’s chapter is Eta Delta.


Student and faculty held a founding ceremony Oct. 22 in the Weatherspoon Art Gallery auditorium. Dr. Aldona Z. Wos, former U.S. Ambassador to Estonia, gave the keynote address.


Founding student inductees and their majors are: Jacky Patterson King, history, international & global studies – Russian studies; Sarah Kaitlyn Post, psychology and anthropology; and Sterling Excell Taylor, political science, international & global studies – Russian studies.


Founding faculty inductees are: Dr. Kathleen Ahern, Russian studies; Dr. James Anderson, history; Dr. Susan Andreatta, anthropology; Dr. Roberto Campo, romance languages; Dr. Fabrice Lehoucq, political science; Dr. Samuel Miller, curriculum & instruction; Dr. Sharon Morrison, public health; Dr. Penelope Pynes, International Program Center; Dr. Stephen Sills, sociology; and Dr. Susan Walcott, geography.


Phi Beta Delta is the first honor society dedicated to recognizing scholarly achievement in international education. The Society, founded at California State University-Long Beach in 1986, was established as a national organization with 38 chartered chapters in 1987, and has grown to become an international society with over 168 chapters.


Phi Beta Delta’s goals are:
• to recognize the scholarly achievement of international students and scholars, U.S. students who have studied abroad, and faculty and staff who are involved in international activities;
• to advance the development of academic-based international programming;
• to provide a network on each campus for faculty, staff and international students involved in international endeavors; and,
• to extend the network of members in chapters worldwide.
