GREENSBORO, N.C. –Jefferson James, the founder, artistic and executive director of the Contemporary Dance Theater of Cincinnati (CDT) will speak about entrepreneurship in dance.

The event will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 4 p.m. in Room 130, Moore Building and is open to the public at no charge.

Since its founding in 1972, CDT has mounted more than 210 dance presentations and has been a partner of the National Performance Network (NPN). The theatre presents six to eight sponsored events and a number of partially-assisted events during a season.

In addition to dance productions, CDT has collaborated with other Cincinnati arts organizations interested in programming alternative work.

Through its facility, the College Hill Town Hall, CDT functions as an entrepreneurial incubator by making administrative, technical and performance opportunities available to the artistic community at minimal cost.

James attended the Juilliard School of Music, Columbia University and the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music. She has received choreography fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ohio Arts Council. She is also a recipient of the Ohio Governor’s Ward in Arts Administration and the Ohio Dance Award.

James talk is part of the Building Entrepreneurial Learning for Life (BELL) Forum Series which is sponsored during the spring semester by the Entrepreneurial Innovation in the Arts (EIA) program. BELL, a university-wide initiative aimed at weaving entrepreneurship into the fabric of the campus, was initiated in 2007.

BELL is a major piece of UNCG’s Economic Development Initiative. It is the cornerstone of UNCG’s response to the priorities and strategic directions that the UNC Board of Governors has set for the university system in promoting economic development for the state. The approach encompasses business, academic, civic, cultural and social pursuits.
