Global Economic and Foreign Policy Lecture Series to be Held at Bryan School

GREENSBORO, N.C. –Seven lectures addressing the theme of “America in the Global Economy” will be held at the Bryan School of Business and Economics.

The lectures are part of the Bryan School’s annual foreign policy discussion series and are sponsored nationally by the Foreign Policy Association.

The Bryan School is the Piedmont Triad sponsor of the program, which features presentations by Bryan School faculty, staff and special guests.

The entire series is also offered as an MBA course and is open to the public at $30 per person. Pre-registration is required.


Presentations will be held at 6:30 p.m. on consecutive Thursdays at the Bryan School.

The series will be led by G. Jason Goddard, central underwriter and assistant vice president at Wachovia Bank and a lecturer at the Bryan School.

Lectures include:

• March 20: “The European Union at 50-European Capitalism.” Guest speaker: Dr. Edward Arrington, professor of accountancy, UNCG.
• March 27: “World Poverty - Part I.” Guest speaker: Dr. Sylvain H. Boko, Zachary T. Smith Associate Professor of Economics, Wake Forest University.
• April 3: “Private Philanthropy- Part II.” Guest speaker: Keith Whitaker, senior vice president, director of Family Dynamics, Calibre, a division of Wachovia Wealth Management; and Dr. John M. Simms, Jr., senior vice president, Calibre.
• April 10: “Latin America: Shift to the Left?” Guest speaker: Dr. Art Murphy, professor of anthropology, UNCG.
• April 17: “U.S.-China Trade Policy.” Guest speaker: Dr. John Silvia, chief economist, Wachovia Corporation.
• April 24: “Russia.” Guest speaker: Dr. Thomas C. Taylor, professor emeritus, Calloway School of Business and Accountancy, Wake Forest University.
• May 1: “U.S. Defense and Security Policy.” Guest speaker: Dr. Jerry Pubantz, professor of political science, UNCG.
