GREENSBORO, N.C. –Author Shira Tarrant, whose current book tackles masculinity and the male perspective on sexual identity, will participate in a panel discussion at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Alexander Room, EUC.
Tarrant will discuss her book “Men Speak Out: Views on Gender, Sex and Power.”
Other participants in the panel will be Jay Poole, visiting assistant professor in Social Work at UNCG and Grantlin Schafer, an anti-violence educator for the Loudon County, Va. domestic violence center.
Tarrant is also the author of “When Sex Became Gender.” Her work has appeared in Genre, Women’s Studies Quarterly, Off Our Backs, and numerous other scholarly journals.
Her next book, “Men and Feminism,” will be published in 2009.
Tarrant holds a PhD in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles. She teaches in the Women’s Studies Department at California State University, Long Beach.
The event is sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Studies Program. Books will be available for purchase and signing. The public is welcome at no charge.
