Bryan School Presents Awards to Top Students

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics presented end-of-year awards to graduating students during a ceremony held Dec. 19.

The awards included the Joseph M. Bryan Achievement and Leadership Awards, Dean’s Service Awards, the Outstanding Graduate and Undergraduate Student Awards and Academic Excellence Medals.

Newly inducted and current members of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for collegiate schools of business, were recognized during the event.

The Achievement and Leadership Award recognizes a combination of academic scholarship and leadership within the Bryan School, the university or the community. Undergraduate students selected for the award must have a 3.0 GPA, while graduate students must have a 3.4 GPA.


The winners are Julie Ellen Price of Fayetteville and Ashley Marie Jacobson of Washington, PA.


The Dean’s Service Award recognizes service to the Bryan School, the university and the community. The minimum GPA required to receive this award is a 2.5 for undergraduate students and a 3.0 for graduate students.

The recipients are:

• Arielle Diann Knight, and Erik Brandon Osborne, both of Greensboro
• Techeeyaw Ahkonodi Anderson, Winston-Salem
• Hanni Faye Bissell, Carthage

The Bryan Outstanding Undergraduate Student and the Bryan Outstanding Graduate Student Awards recognize graduating students who have enriched the Bryan School’s learning environment through their commitment to academic performance, professional and service activities, or support of other students.

Graduate winners are:

• Eric Wannamaker Hardin and Timothy Maj, both of Greensboro
• Irene Valerio Navarrete; Horse Shoe, San Jose, Costa Rica

Undergraduate winners are:

• David Vincent Howell, Greensboro
• Ana Cristina Elliott, High Point
• Andrew Ray Homan, Wilson
• Marquita Richetta Lowry, Huntersville

Academic Excellence Medals are awarded to undergraduate students who are in the top five percent of their graduating class and have a 3.9 GPA in their business coursework. To receive the Academic Excellence Medal, graduate students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.9.


Undergraduate recipients are:

• Ana Cristina Elliott, High Point
• Tracey Annette Young, Winston-Salem

Graduate recipients are:

• Eric Wannamaker Hardin and Jonathan Veness Woodward, both of Greensboro
• Scott Michael Dwyer, Hillsborough
• Irene Valerio Navarrete, Huntersville
• Ted William Stewart, Jr., Liberty

Beta Gamma Sigma is the scholastic honor society established to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and to foster personal and professional excellence among its members. Membership is the highest recognition a business student can receive in an undergraduate or master’s program at an institution accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

The Bryan School is the largest of UNCG’s six professional schools with 450 graduate students and 2,100 undergraduates. It is accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and is among the top 10 percent of business schools nationwide that have earned accreditation at the undergraduate and graduate levels in both business and accounting.
