GREENSBORO, NC – The Department of Counseling and Educational Development is offering an all-day symposium on current trends and interventions in substance abuse.
The symposium begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in Cone Ballroom, Elliott University Center, and targets counseling professionals. Attendees can earn continuing education credits for licensure and/or certification.
Scheduled sessions and costs are:
• 8:30 a.m., Registration
• 9 a.m.-10:15 a.m., “Substance Abuse: Law Enforcement Perspectives,” Sgt. John Christy, Vice and Narcotics, Guilford County Sheriff’s Department, $5
• 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., “Adolescents and Substance Abuse: Implications and Treatment,” Brendan Hargett, Guilford County Department of Social Services, $10
• 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m., lunch on your own, onsite dining available
• 1:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m., “Solution-Focused Strategies in Substance Abuse Counseling,” Dr. Cynthia Osborn, Kent State University, $15
