Ashley Ortiz and Ricardo Puerta heat up the stage in 'Love's Fire.'
GREENSBORO, NC – Looking for creative ways to stay warm on Valentine’s weekend? “Love’s Fire,” Theatre’s latest production, is certain to generate plenty of heat.
“Fire,” a Shakespearean collage, runs Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 14-17, in the newly-renovated Brown Building Theatre. Six short pieces by major contemporary American playwrights, each inspired by a different Shakespearean sonnet, explore themes of love, sex, infidelity, jealousy and passion.
“When it comes to love and sex, Shakespeare still has something to say after all these years,” says Christine Morris, the show’s director. “It’s a great ensemble piece, a chance to see the work of six major American playwrights in a single evening. And a chance to experience the continuing power of Shakespeare’s sonnets to speak to a modern audience.”
“Fire” is funny, moving and edgy, written for mature audiences, says Morris. In addition to the Bard, writing credits go to Eric Bogosian, Ntozake Shange, Marsha Norman, Tony Kushner, Wendy Wasserstein and John Guare.
Show times are: 7 p.m., Feb. 14; 8 p.m., Feb. 15 and 16; and 2 p.m., Feb. 17.
Tickets are $12 for adults; $10 for students, senior citizens, and children; $8 for groups of 10 or more and UNCG Alumni Association members; and $7 for current UNCG students.
