GREENSBORO, NC – John A. Allison IV, chairman and chief executive officer of BB&T Corporation, will speak at the Joseph A. Bryan School of Business and Economics.

The event, which is open to the public at no charge, will take place at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in Room 160 of the Bryan School.

Allison will discuss leadership and values. His presentation will be the inaugural lecture in the BB&T Distinguished Lecture Series on Capitalism.

“John Allison is a dynamic speaker,” said Marianne Hayek, director of the BB&T Program on Capitalism, Markets and Morality at UNCG. “He describes an interesting perspective on the morality of capitalism in general, and the need for personal responsibility in everyday life. I think the message will appeal to students, faculty and the public.”

The program, which was funded by a $1 million gift from the BB&T Charitable Foundation, was established to promote the study, discussion and debate about the role of capitalism and its moral implications. The program offers undergraduate and graduate students from disciplines across UNCG the opportunity to examine the ethical and philosophical basis for free market economies.

With $130.8 billion in assets and more than 1,500 financial centers in 11 states and Washington, D.C., BB&T Corp. is the nation's 14th largest financial holding company.

The Bryan School is the largest of UNCG’s six professional schools with 450 graduate students and 2,100 undergraduates. It is accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and is among the top 10 percent of business schools nationwide that have earned accreditation at the undergraduate and graduate levels in both business and accounting.
