Lecture Series Probes Governance, Democracy, Development

GREENSBORO, NC – The Center for Legislative Studies will explore “Governance, Democracy and Development” with its 2008 Spring Lecture Series.


All lectures begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Weatherspoon Art Museum Auditorium. All are free and open to the public.

Topics and dates are:


• Wednesday, Feb. 27; Phillip Keefer of the World Bank; “Why Don’t the Poor in Poor Countries Vote for Economic Development?”
• Wednesday, March 26; James Mahon of Williams College; “How the Bond Markets Keep Governments Honest, or Not.”
• Wednesday, April 16; John Gerring of Boston University; “Does Democracy Matter for Development? A Historical Perspective.”


The Department of Political Science; the Kohler Fund; the BB&T Program on Capitalism, Markets and Morality; the Political Awareness Club; and the International and Global Studies Program co-sponsor the series.
