GREENSBORO, NC – Want to expand your worldview and embrace ethnic and cultural diversity in the new year? Visit UNCG Saturday, Feb. 2, for the 2008 Shades of Color Conference.

This year’s celebration will be held in conjunction with the Conference on African American Culture and Experience. Sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the African American Studies Program, Shades of Color will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Elliott University Center.

Featured speakers will be Mark Anthony Neal, author and professor of black popular culture at Duke University, and Rosa Clemente, black Puerto Rican hip-hop journalist, activist and community organizer.

Attendees can take part in an extensive Workshop Carnival, win prizes and enjoy coffee, a continental breakfast and lunch. Topics will include literary representations of minorities, interpretations of sexual politics, depictions of minorities in popular culture, exploration of cultural identity, the invisibility of privilege and multicultural understanding and negotiation.

Sign up online during the pre-registration period Jan. 14 through Jan. 30 and receive free admission for all UNCG affiliates — students, faculty and staff. Others who pre-register will pay $10. Registration at the door is $5 for UNCG affiliates and $15 for others. Registration entitles participants to conference materials, lunch and entertainment.

Register online at http://maf.dept.uncg.edu/training/SOCC/index.html beginning in mid-January or call Multicultural Affairs at (336) 334-5090.
