GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Obie Award-winning episodic play “The Vagina Monologues” will be presented Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 14-16, at 7:30 p.m.
Performances will be held in the Elliott University Center auditorium. While admission is free, a donation of $5 is suggested with all proceeds going to the Clara House, Greensboro’s shelter and resources for survivors of domestic violence.
The play features UNCG faculty, students, alumni and staff.
“The most powerful aspect of the V-Day movement is the commitment to bring about real change,” said Alicia Sowisdral, a graduate student in the Women’s and Gender Studies Program who is directing the play. “By participating in 'The Vagina Monologues,’ either in the cast or as an audience member, individuals directly contribute to ending domestic violence in their communities.”
"The Vagina Monologues" explore the spectrum of female sexuality, from pleasure to childbirth and rape. Women of every age and from more than 112 countries and 112 college campuses have performed the play.
To date, performances of “The Vagina Monologues” have raised more than $35 million for programs designed to end violence against women.
The event is sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Studies Program. A silent auction featuring works from local artists will be held in the lobby of EUC prior to each show.
