GREENSBORO, NC – Journal Finder, an integrated search interface developed by UNCG staff to provide users with easy access to a library’s electronic resources, has been sold to North Carolina-based WT Cox Subscriptions for $350,000.
The Electronic Resources and Information Technology (ERIT) staff of UNCG’s University Libraries created Journal Finder in 2001. Hosted and maintained by ERIT, it has grown to include links to more than 40,000 academic journals, magazines, newspapers and newsletters, and to be used by 43 institutions.
“ERIT is extremely proud of its leadership role in creating Journal Finder,” said Tim Bucknall, head of ERIT. “We love Journal Finder. It’s our ‘baby,’ but running such a large-scale operation requires substantial time and effort. The sale will allow ERIT to devote more resources to building new services that we expect to be every bit as ground-breaking as Journal Finder.”
Under the terms of the agreement, negotiated through the university’s Office of Technology Transfer, UNCG will continue to use Journal Finder at no charge for five years. Campus users of Journal Finder should not notice any change, Bucknall said. WT Cox Subscriptions will pay UNCG the $350,000 in four annual payments.
“I want to offer my sincerest thanks to everyone who has worked on Journal Finder,” Bucknall said. “Together, we've brought cutting-edge library technologies to hundreds of thousands of students and faculty throughout N.C. and beyond. We're sorry to see our ‘baby’ go, but we’re ready to move on to new challenges.”
WT Cox Subscriptions is a provider of e-journal, e-books and print subscriptions, delivering access and journal management options to all types of libraries and research organizations. In business for more than 30 years, the company offers more than 260,000 titles.
