GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Make an artistic impression on your budding ballerina with “Degas’ Little Dancer: A Magical Story of Time Travel and Dance.”
The touring play, presented by the N.C. Theatre for Young People, pirouettes into UNCG Tuesday, April 1, through Saturday, April 5. It is written for children kindergarten and up.
Wesley Middleton’s play takes audiences back to the spring of 1881 and the sixth Impressionist Exhibition. They watch as celebrated painter Edgar Degas presents the only sculpture he will ever exhibit in public. Degas’ “Little Dancer,” one of the world’s best-loved sculptures, was modeled on an adolescent ballet student at the Paris Opéra.
“Little Dancer” explores the imagination of a young dancer meeting the famous artist. Celebrating their passions, together, they dream and dance in the joy of discovering who they truly are.
The N.C. Theatre for Young People is based in UNCG’s Department of Theatre. Shows tour across the state.
School groups can enjoy “Little Dancer” Tuesday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. and noon each day.
Public performances are Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are available through the UNCG Box Office or at the door one hour prior to the show.
All shows are staged in the Brown Building Theatre.
Admission is $7 general, $6 children and senior citizens, $5 groups of 10 or more and UNCG Alumni Association members.
