GREENSBORO, NC – UNCG is honoring Chancellor Patricia A. Sullivan in a number of ways during this spring semester - and the final public event is Tuesday, May 13.

From 3-6 p.m. that day, an open-house retirement celebration for Chancellor Sullivan will be held in Cone Ballroom of Elliott University Center. Mark your calendars.

Earlier, the Board of Trustees held a public ceremony on April 10 to announce that the the Science Building has been re-named for Sullivan.

“During her years at UNCG, Pat Sullivan has had a huge impact on this institution, and she has made many, many friends – both for the university and those who respect and love her,” said Stephen C. Hassenfelt, chair of the UNCG Board of Trustees. “This final event is for anyone who wants to say ‘thank you’ to this campus’s guiding light.”

In December, Sullivan announced her plans to retire, effective July 31, and the Chancellor Search Committee has been hard at work since Jan. 4 to find her successor. The anticipated end of the search is June 13, when UNC President Erskine Bowles will present his selection to the UNC Board of Governors for approval.

Sullivan became UNCG’s first woman chancellor on Jan. 1, 1995, and is the institution’s ninth chief executive. She is currently the senior chancellor in the UNC system. She came to Greensboro from Texas Woman’s University, where she was vice president for academic affairs and had served a year as interim president.

Since the announcement, aAlumni, friends, faculty, staff and students have been making donations to the Dr. Patricia A. Sullivan and Dr. Charles W. Sullivan Scholarship Fund to enable her “Students First” legacy to endure beyond her tenure. Established by the Sullivans in 2006, the scholarship will provide need-based support to talented students. Information is available through the UNCG Development Office at (336) 334-5677.
