GREENSBORO, N.C. – A panel of prominent Civil War historians will gather for a panel discussion titled “American Civil War Experiences.”
The event, free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. in Jarrell Hall, Room 032, of Jackson Library. A reception in the Faculty Center will follow.
The panelists include:
• Dr. Joseph Glatthaar, the Stephenson Distinguished Professor of History at UNC Chapel Hill, will discuss the day-to-day lives of African Americans during the Civil War. Glatthaar is the author of numerous books, including “Forgotten Allies: The Oneida Indians in the American Revolution.”
• Dr. Peter Carmichael, professor of history at West Virginia University, will discuss the Civil War from the perspective of the daily lives of soldiers. Carmichael is the author of a forthcoming book on slaves who served in the Confederate army.
• Dr. Susanna Lee, assistant professor of history at NC State, will discuss “Remembrances of the Civil War.
“We are truly privileged to have three leading scholars of the Civil War on a single panel,” said Dr. Jeff Jones, assistant professor of history at UNCG and the event’s organizer. “Anyone interested in United States history in general, and the Civil War in particular, will want to come to this event.”
The event is sponsored by the UNCG African American Studies Program, the UNCG History Department, the UNCG History Club, the Lloyd International Honors College, the GTCC History Club, Wake Forest University History Club and the Greensboro Historical Museum.
