GREENSBORO, NC – Dr. Oliver Smithies, winner of the 2007 Nobel Prize for Medicine, will be among the speakers when the UNCG Department of Biology sponsors the N.C. Academy of Science annual meeting March 28-29.
The following events are free and open to the public.
Friday, March 28
• 8 p.m. – David Ullrich, executive director of the non-profit Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative; keynote address “Scienpolicy – The Key to Environmental Problem Solving;” Jaylee M. Mead Auditorium (Room 101), Science Building.
Saturday, March 29
• 11:45 a.m. – Dr. Oliver Smithies, UNC Chapel Hill; keynote address “Turning Pages;” Mead Auditorium, Science Building.
• 2 p.m. – Presentation: “Biotechnology in the Piedmont Triad;” including representatives from Targacept, TransTech Pharma and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center; Room 201, Science Building.
• 2:30 p.m. – Presentation: “Integration of Science into Policy: Global Climate Change;” including N.C. Rep. Pricey Harrison and N.C. Sen. Janet Cowell; Room 200, Science Building.
