Chancellor Sullivan presents Dr. Susan Calkins with the 2008 Research Excellence Award for a senior faculty member
GREENSBORO, NC – Faculty, staff and students at UNCG received awards for teaching, research, scholarship and service during the Excellence Day program on May 7. The award winners are:
Faculty and Staff Honors
• Staff Excellence Awards – Audrey Siler, facilities operations housekeeper, School of Music; and Ray Carney, building manager for the Sullivan and Eberhart science buildings.
• Alumni Teaching Excellence Awards – Dr. Shelly Brown-Jeffy, assistant professor, Department of Sociology; and Dr. Annette Van, assistant professor, Department of English.
• Research Excellence Awards – Dr. Susan Calkins, professor, Department of Psychology and Department of Human Development and Family Studies; and Dr. Anatoly Miroshnichenko, assistant professor, Department of Physics and Astronomy.
• Gladys Strawn Bullard Awards for Service – Mary Early, administrative staff specialist, graduate School; Jeff Colbert, lecturer, Department of Political Science; and social work major Eugenia Brown of Greensboro.
• UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching – Dr. Vidyaranya Gargeya, professor of information systems and operations management, Bryan School of Business & Economics.
• North Carolina Order of the Long Leaf Pine – Dr. Robert Calhoon, retiring after 44 years of service, Department of History, and Dr. Bert Goldman, retiring after 43 years of service, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, both emeritus University Marshals, awarded by order of N.C. Gov. Mike Easley.
