GREENSBORO, NC – Music and light should bring holiday delight this Christmas season, a special gift to the community from UNCG.

The community is invited to join five UNCG choirs for the annual Holiday Choral Concert, at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro.

UNCG’s annual luminaire display will begin at dusk Tuesday, Dec. 9. About 7,000 luminaires will light the night across campus until 10 p.m.

The concert features the UNCG Chamber Singers, University Chorale, Women’s Choir, and Men’s and Women’s Glee Clubs. The music showcases traditional and contemporary choral music. More than 200 voices will be heard during the concert. The audience can join the UNCG singers in such traditional favorites as “Joy to the World,” “O Come, All Ye Faithful” and “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.”

“This concert is a wonderful way for the public to join the UNCG community in celebrating the vocal traditions of the season,” said Dr. Welborn E. Young, director of choral activities and associate professor of music. “It’s a wonderful holiday gift to the community from the School of Music.”

All choirs will be featured together in a performance of Mack Wilberg’s arrangement of “Angels We Have Heard on High.”

The First Presbyterian Church is located at 617 N. Elm St. in Greensboro. The concert is free and open to the public. No tickets are required. For more information, call (336) 334-5493 or visit www.uncg.edu/mus.

UNCG’s sororities and fraternities sponsor the annual luminaire display, preparing the luminaries, lighting them and cleaning up. This year, Order of Omega, the honor society for fraternities and sororities, is overseeing the project.

For more information on the luminaires, contact Erin Jennings, assistant director for Greek life, at (336) 334-5800 or erin_jennings@uncg.edu.
