GREENSBORO, NC – John Gamble Dance Theater (JGDT) – choreographed by UNCG dance professor John Gamble – will present four dances in concert at the UNCG Dance Theater on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-22.

All performances will begin at 8 p.m. For tickets call the UNCG Box Office at (336) 334-4849. Tickets are $15 general, $12 senior and student, and $9 UNCG student.

Dances will include:

• “Changeant d’Habit de Sexe” is set to cabaret music sung by Jacques Brel, a Belgian singer popular in the 1960s. The title translates to mean cross dresser, or transvestite. The dance harkens the allure of women dressed as men and references early film noir stars like Marlene Dietrich. Kindal Blattner-Buterin, Virginia Freeman Dupont, Jennifer McNure, Robin Spohr, Cory Stephenson, Andrea Theis, and Natasha Williams will perform the dance. “Changeant” was selected to tour with the North Carolina Dance Festival this season.

• The music for “Hearts in Mason Jars” was composed by Claire Campbell and Deb Davis of AHopeforaGoldenSummer, an indy band from Athens, Ga. John Gamble, Jennifer McNure, Pete Sangemino and Steven Smith will perform the music live. The dancers will be Justy Tornow, Melissa Pihos, Katherine Kiefer Stark and Tricia Zweier.

• “Heavy Smoke” will be premiered. The sound score is composed of excerpts from Steve Reich's “Proverb and City Life.” “City Life” includes text recorded from emergency worker's communications during the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The movement vocabulary contrasts calm and violence. The dance will be performed by Rachel Grant, Erica Griffith, Erica Honeycutt, Stephanie Leathers, Ashlee Ramsey, Amber Starr Peeden, Barbara Tait and Lauren Wilson.

• “Sojourn” will also be premiered. The movement is based on breath sounds and rhythms and explores the close relationship between movement and sound. Amy Love Beasley, Kindal Blattner-Buterin, Virginia Freeman Dupont, Holly Gilbert, Jennifer McNure, Cory Stephenson, Andrea Theis and Natasha Williams will perform the dance.

Gamble has created more than 70 dance works. His pieces have been performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. He has been presenting in North Carolina since 1986. His company includes dancers, musicians and actors. His productions are often evening length dance/plays that address political and social issues.
