GREENSBORO — Eight graduate students in the UNCG Department of Dance will present an affordable evening of new works at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Sloan Theatre at Greensboro Day School.
Tickets cost $5 and can be purchased at the door. Ample parking is available at the school, which is located at 5401 Lawndale Ave. Support for the show has been provided by UNCG’s Entrepreneurial Innovation in the Arts, a Building Entrepreneurial Learning for Life (BELL) initiative.
The show will feature original works by MA and MFA choreography candidates Amanda Diorio, Loren Groenendahl, Kelly Ozust, Melissa Pihos, Linda Sabo, Justin Tornow, Alison Williams and Tricia Zewier. Their works vary in subject matter, movement style and composition, and include an up-tempo piece that explores the relationship between two genres of dance and a piece based on an absurdist play.
The choreographers, all under the instruction of Jan Van Dyke, are as diverse as their work and come to UNCG from Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New Jersey and California.
Six are second-year students whose degree programs will culminate with thesis concerts at the end of their third year. One is an MA student who will graduate in May, and yet another is a faculty member at Elon University studying for her MFA.
