GREENSBORO, N.C. – Will Taylor, Ph.D., will speak and lead a discussion about the ways environmental and dietary factors can influence the progression of HIV infection, 8-9:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at M’Coul’s Pub in downtown Greensboro.

The program is the second Science on Tap event and part of UNCG’s Science and Society Lecture Series. Taylor is a senior research professor and director of the university’s Laboratory for Molecular Medicine.

Taylor plans to talk about the importance of selenium, which may be declining in the food chain due to acid rain, for surviving HIV. He’ll also talk about the role of other nutrients and the potential virus activating effects of cigarette smoking and MSG (yes, the stuff in your favorite Asian food).

Science on Tap takes place the third Thursday of each month at M’Coul’s – www.mcoulspub.com – 110 W. McGee Street. Upcoming speakers, all UNCG faculty, are:

• Dec. 18 – “Superbugs: Our contribution to the evolution of opportunistic germs” – Dr. Dasantila Golemi-Kotra, associate professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

• Jan. 15 – “Winning the Battle of the Bulge: Having Your Beer and Health Too” – Dr. Michael McIntosh, L.S. Keker Excellence Professor, Department of Nutrition.
