GREENSBORO — Provost David H. Perrin has been honored by the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his doctorate.
He received one of 12 Legacy Laureate Awards during the school’s homecoming activities. The Legacy Laureate program recognizes Pitt alumni “who have excelled both professionally and personally and who exemplify the best in leadership qualities and commitment to the greater good of their professions, communities and the world at large.” Perrin received his Ph.D. in 1985.
Perrin became provost in 2007, and serves as UNCG’s chief academic officer. In that capacity, he provides leadership to academic programs that include 86 majors at the undergraduate level, 65 master’s degrees and doctorates in 25 areas.
He joined UNCG in 2001 as dean of the School of HHP and professor of exercise and sport science. Under his leadership, a Center for Women’s Health and Wellness was established, and a new initiative for Healthy Aging and Living has been developed at the North Campus of the Gateway University Research Park. External grant and contract funding for the school increased fivefold.
He is serving a three-year appointment on the Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary, Community-Based Linkages of the Human Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Perrin has an extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals spanning almost 30 years.
He has published six books and is editor of the Athletic Training Education Series. His work has been supported by grants from the NIH, National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association for Research and Education Foundation.
