GREENSBORO, NC – A symposium will consider the parallel histories of activism by young women at Bennett and UNCG, 2-5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the city’s Central Library, 219 N. Church Street.
Presented by the Linda Arnold Carlisle Distinguished Excellence Professorship in Women’s and Gender Studies at UNCG (formerly Woman’s College), the symposium – Affectionate Interpretation: A History of Women’s Civic Engagement at Bennett and UNCG – will look at that activism through the lens of overlapping histories of social justice work.
The student histories will include women’s suffrage, Civil Rights and the student sit-in movement, and will be followed by a theatrical performance and a discussion about future possibilities for collaboration between the two campuses.
The event includes a reception. For more information, contact the UNCG Women’s and Gender Studies Program at (336) 334-5673.
