GREENSBORO, N.C. –Thee films on topics from alternative sexualities to sexism in advertising will be shown as part “Love Your Body” events on campus.

“Love Your Body” programs promote positive body images and self-acceptance for both men and women. Events include workshops, demonstrations and performances.

All films are free and open to the public and will be held at 7 p.m. in Room 200 of the Sullivan Science Building. Discussions led by UNCG staff and faculty follow each screening.

The films are:

• Monday, Oct. 13: “Killing Us Softly” explores the role advertising plays as propaganda against women.

• Tuesday, Oct. 14: “No! The Rape Documentary.” Award-winning filmmaker Aisha Simmons focuses on the stories of African-American women who have been sexually assaulted.

• Thursday, Oct. 16: “XXY” tells the fictional story of Alex, a 15 year-old intersex boy who struggles, along with his family, to establish his sexual identity.

“Love Your Body” events are sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Studies Program and the Wellness Center.

The “Love Your Body” campaign was started in 1998 by the National Organization for Women Foundation as a part of their Women’s Health Project. The intent of the Love Your Body campaign was to call attention to negative and harmful advertising and its impact on women and girls’ self esteem.
