GREENSBORO, NC – -The fifth annual New Music Festival will feature the work of unconventional artists whose trademark is their unique sound and performance style.

The event, titled “Unimaginable Music and Unruly Artists,” will be held Tuesday through Thursday, Oct. 28-30, at the UNCG School of Music and the Weatherspoon Art Museum. The festival consists of concerts, lectures, presentations and master classes given by regional, national and international artists.

Featured guest artists this year will be percussion and flute duo Due East, featuring Erin Lesser and Greg Beyer. Their musical palette extends from multi-media and technology-driven works, to sonic experiences that call for rare, world music instruments played in combination with folksong-like vocals and narratives.

Other artists include composer and off-beat vocalist Ken Ueno, winner of the coveted Rome Prize for composers; sound-text and visual artist Michael Basinski; and Argentine composer Nora Ponte.

Legendary improvisational guitarist and Greensboro resident Eugene Chadbourne, whose highly eclectic style has influenced artists from the Mothers of Invention to John Zorn, will also perform.

The festival also includes performances by UNCG faculty members including: Mark Engebretson, Seth Ellis, Lorena Guillén, Alejandro Rutty, Steve Stusek, Inara Zandmane, and UNCG student performers.

A gala concert at the Weatherspoon Art Museum with text, sound and video improvisations will conclude the Festival.
