Forum April 8 on Reinventing UNCG’s Quad

Posted 4-8-09

Faculty, staff, students, and interested members of the community are invited to an open forum 2:30-4 p.m. April 8 in the Alexander Room of Elliott University Center. The topic is Reinventing UNCG’s Residential Quad.

UNCG is considering options regarding how to address enrollment growth and the need for additional, updated, and functional resident housing. This forum is designed to solicit input and feedback on two options regarding the future of the Quad (Bailey, Coit, Cotten, Gray, Hinshaw, Jamison and Shaw residence halls) that are under consideration:

1. Renovate the Quad and build a new residence hall in another campus location;
2. Rebuild Quad housing on the existing site and expand capacity.

We are particularly interested in your views regarding the present and future needs of the campus and how best to balance the often competing values that should be addressed as we make this important decision, including sustainability, consistency with the University Master Plan, need to expand housing in proportion to enrollment growth, importance of providing safe, accessible, state-of-the-art living and learning space, and a desire to conserve scarce campus sites for the future.

Today’s forum is one of a series of meetings with university constituencies designed to solicit broad input before a decision is made this spring. If you cannot attend today’s forum we encourage you to provide your input via the "Send a Message to the Chancellor" link on the chancellor's web page at www.uncg.edu/cha/
