  • WFMY News 2 posted a web story on UNCG's plans for a new, "green" School of Education building. (4-30-09)
  • The Spartones, UNCG's male a cappella group. have made headlines once more. Gordon Sutker, Spartones president, was interviewed by the Baltimore Sun about alt-rocker Ben Folds' new CD, "Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella." The Sparts perform Folds' hit "Not the Same" on the album. Folds, also interviewed by the Sun, dubs the group "groove Nazis." (4-28-09)
  • UNCG's male a cappella group, The Spartones, were featured in GoTriad in advance of the release of rocker Ben Folds' new CD. The Sparts perform Folds' "Not the Same" on the CD, "Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella." (4-23-09)
  • Kathryn Crowe of University Libraries was interviewed for Fox 8 News' "Buckley Report." Crowe spoke about the changing face of libraries. (4-22-09)
  • Sociology professor Rebecca Adams was interviewed about Deadheads on the Soundcheck program of New York City NPR station WNYC. (4-22-09)
  • Rebecca Adams also was quoted in a New York Times story about research examining the link between strong friendships and good health. “In general, the role of friendship in our lives isn’t terribly well appreciated,” Adams told the newspaper. “There is just scads of stuff on families and marriage, but very little on friendship. It baffles me. Friendship has a bigger impact on our psychological well-being than family relationships.” The article was posted April 20 and printed in the newspaper ’s April 21 edition. (4-21-09)
  • The Spartones, UNCG's male a cappella group, performed April 16 on the Fox 8 Morning News. The Sparts appear on alt-rocker Ben Folds' upcoming CD, "Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella," due out at the end of April. Click here for Video Clip One. Click here for Video Clip Two. (4-16-09).
  • News 14 Carolina broadcast several segments during its morning show about the UNCG's International Festival, which will take place April 17. (4-15-09)
  • Jerry Pubantz, professor of political science, was interviewed by WFMY News 2 about the impact of Somali piracy on the U.S. and other nations. ( 4-14-09)
  • Sociology professor Rebecca Adams was interviewed on NPR station WUNC's The State of Things about her 20 years of research on Deadheads. The Grateful Dead kicked off their latest national tour April 12 in Greensboro. (4-10-09)

  • GoTriad ran a feature on Theatre Professor Jim Wren, co-author of "Revenger's Tragedy," which was performed at the Kennedy Center as part of the American College Theater Festival April 15. (4-9-09)
  • Greensboro News & Record higher education reporter Joe Killian wrote an article on plans to renovate residence halls in the Quad.  The article weighs the pros and cons of renovating or replacing the aging dormitories. (4-8-09)
  • The Greensboro News & Record ran an advance story on UNCG's upcoming Aerotropolis Summit. The summit, which takes place April 16, is designed to inform students about future opportunities in aviation. (4-8-09)
  • A paper coauthored by Stephen Holland, an assistant professor of economics in the Bryan School, has been featured on the Green Inc. blog on the New York Times web site. The paper, published in the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, argues that a low-carbon fuels standard, an idea being considered at the state and national level, would do little to reduce global warming.   • The editor of the A&T Register, the student newspaper at N.C. A&T State University, wrote in her column about her appreciation for programming at UNCG, after experiencing the Shanghai Huai Opera and other events recently. (4-2-09)
  • The Triangle’s News & Observer quoted Saundra Westerveldt, associate professor of sociology, about nursing home safety in the wake of a deadly shooting March 29 at a nursing home in Carthage. “We have a violent-crime problem in the United States, and it has nothing to do with the nursing home,” she said. “People’s risk of violent crime is much higher at the hand of people they know. These crimes happen in their own homes or private places. If you really want to reduce violent crime or homicide in the U.S., you would focus on that, not on putting metal detectors at the door of every nursing home.” (4-1-09)
  • Joel Dunn, associate vice chancellor for administrative systems, spoke with WFMY News 2 about the threat posed by the infamous Conficker computer worm. (4-1-09)
