GREENSBORO, N.C. – Yes, it’s that time again. Time to ring in the new academic year with FallFest 2009 at UNCG.
FallFest kicks off Monday, Sept. 21, with a celebration in the Quad, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 27. While festivities will take place all week, Saturday, Sept. 26, means affordable family fun for the entire Greensboro community with a children’s festival and live music for kids and adults.
“FallFest is the perfect family event because it’s not just my sons who have fun. My husband and I have a great time, too,” says Mary Kerrigan ’02, who attends FallFest each year with her husband, Jeff Kerrigan ’98, and their kids. “Although I will say the children's festival and the awesome bands are the things my kids look forward to most.”
Saturday’s schedule includes:
•Children’s Festival, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
•Big Bang Boom Children’s Band, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
•Spartan Parade of Chariots, 3-3:30 p.m.
•Breakfast Club (’80s cover band), 4-5 p.m. and 5:20-6:30 p.m.
These events are free and take place in Kaplan Commons, on the West Lawn of the Elliott University Center. Food and drink are available for purchase.
Chuck Folds, who graduated from UNCG in 2000 with a master’s in geography and is currently earning his PhD in geography at UNCG, leads Big Bang Boom.
“It’s fun for me to play an event at the school I’ve gone to since 1986,” Folds says. “FallFest is so all-encompassing. There are kids there, parents, alums, professors, staff. It’s all about these different groups mixing together.”
UNCG Chancellor Linda P. Brady is also stoked about FallFest.
“Please join thousands of alumni, students and members of the Greensboro community for our annual FallFest homecoming at UNCG,” Brady says. “We promise a good time for all! I especially look forward to welcoming back our alumni and to cheering on the Spartans. Be there!”
