GREENSBORO, N.C. — Singer and actress Patti LuPone will perform songs that have distinguished her career and ones that are personal favorites during the concert “The Gypsy in My Soul” at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro Sept. 26.
The concert, which begins at 8 p.m. in Aycock Auditorium, is the first of five performances for the 2009-10 University Concert & Lecture Series. Tickets are $30 and $40 and can be purchased from the University Box Office at (336) 334-4849 or online at boxoffice.uncg.edu.
A two-time Tony Award winner, LuPone has performed in numerous Broadway productions, including “Gypsy,” “Oliver!” and “Anything Goes.” She swept the theatre awards in 2008 for her portrayal of Rose in “Gypsy,” winning the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for Best Actress in a Musical and the Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance.
More recently, LuPone has performed with the Los Angeles Opera in “Mahagonny,” in the world premiere of the new opera “To Hell and Back” with San Francisco's Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, in the Broadway production of “Sweeney Todd” and as part of a multi-city tour of her theatrical concert “Matters of the Heart.”
