GREENSBORO, N.C. UNCG begins its 119th year Wednesday, Aug. 19, and Chancellor Linda P. Brady is looking forward to the arrival of new freshman, transfer and adult students for first semester.

“It’s one of my favorite times of the year,” Brady said. “The students are excited to begin a new adventure and we want them to know that we are committed to helping them succeed.”

Classes begin Monday, Aug. 24, with the annual Fall Kickoff festival taking place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. along College Avenue. UNCG’s freshman class last year included 2,493 students who were joined by 1,444 transfer students, and even higher numbers are expected this fall.

Chancellor Brady will join the move-in process. “Participating in move-in and orientation gives me an opportunity to meet some of the incoming students and their families, to learn where they’re from, what brought them to UNCG and what they want to accomplish here,” she said.

So, what’s new for students this fall? In athletics, the men’s basketball program will start playing its home games at the Greensboro Coliseum. The campus dining hall will be under new management by Chartwells Food Services. The campus community can watch construction of the new $40 million School of Education building. Textbook purchases will be more economical and easier for students. The University Bookstore, managed by Barnes & Noble, is cutting its textbook prices by five percent.
