GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG will host the Triad premier of “Prometheus’ Garden,” a 28-minute animated film by legendary Seattle underground artist Bruce Bickford, Thursday, Feb. 12. The 7 p.m. showing will be held in the Weatherspoon Art Museum auditorium and is open to the public at no charge.
Completed in 1988 but only recently premiering on the festival film circuit, the movie is loosely based on the Greek myth of Prometheus, a Titan who stole fire from the gods and made the first humans out of clay.
Bickford’s career has spanned four decades and includes work with rock icon Frank Zappa. “Prometheus’ Garden,” a clay animation film, has been hailed as Bickford’s most complete work and the one least compromised by others with creative control. It took eight years to complete.
The Feb. 12 premier will also feature a showing of “Luck of a Foghorn,” a 28-minute documentary on the making of “Prometheus’ Garden” by filmmaker and UNCG faculty member Brett Ingram. The short documentary is a condensed version of Ingram’s film “Monster Road,” which focused on the life and work of Bickford and won “Best Documentary" at the 2004 Slamdance Film Festival.
Ingram is an assistant professor in the Department of Broadcasting and Cinema.
